KUALA LUMPUR — The Oil & Gas Asia (OGA) 2026 conference is underway at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, drawing more than 30,000 industry professionals, 2,000 brands, and representatives from over 80 countries. Running from September 2 to 4, the event serves as a key gathering for policymakers, energy companies, engineering firms, technology providers, investors, and trade partners to share market intelligence and foster business opportunities.

Organised by Informa Markets Malaysia under the theme “Powering Progress, Shaping Tomorrow,” OGA 2026 spotlights developments across upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, with a focus on digitalisation and emerging green technologies. The event features country pavilions from Australia, China, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, showcasing innovative solutions in the energy industry. PETRONAS, Malaysia’s national oil and gas company, returns as corporate partner for the fifth consecutive edition.

Key forums include the flagship SPEAK OGA platform and the C-Suite Series, which gather senior industry executives to discuss market trends and leadership challenges. Concurrently, EIC Connect OGA — organised in partnership with the Energy Industries Council — highlights global project insights and supply chain opportunities. Alongside OGA 2026, the 8th Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Exhibition and Conference (MOGSEC) is taking place, co-organised with the Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council.

In his opening address, PETRONAS president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz emphasised the critical role of reliable and sustainable energy supply amid recent global disruptions. He highlighted the impact of production shutdowns and constrained flows through the Straits of Hormuz, estimating that between 5.5 million and 6 million barrels per day were taken off the global market in July. Though supply pressures have begun to ease, he noted that a full return to normal trade patterns is unlikely before 2027.

“The recent global developments painfully remind us that every aspect of our lives, industries, and economies depends on reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy,” Tengku Muhammad Taufik said. “Accelerating industry efforts has never been more imperative. Since humanity first harnessed hydrocarbons, energy has enabled every major chapter of progress, from 20th-century industrialisation to modern digitalisation.”

Informa Markets Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat underscored the importance of cross-border collaboration as the energy sector adapts to structural changes. He noted that participation has grown this year, with 35% of exhibitors making their debut at OGA. The previous edition of the event facilitated more than US$42 million in business deals, illustrating its continued significance in fostering regional and global energy partnerships.
