Jockey Oisin Murphy expressed strong confidence in Bow Echo ahead of the upcoming St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. The George Boughey-trained colt, who secured a decisive victory in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier in May, is currently the even-money favorite for the event scheduled on Tuesday.

Speaking during a Royal Ascot preview broadcast, Murphy reflected on his initial doubts about Bow Echo’s potential, which were dispelled by the horse’s performance in the 2,000 Guineas. “I didn’t really believe in him. George was singing and shouting about him, and I was blown away by what he did at Newmarket,” Murphy said. He described Bow Echo’s race as uncharacteristically slow to start but noted that the colt gained momentum powerfully, ultimately pulling away to win convincingly.

Murphy also highlighted Bow Echo’s remarkable recovery after the race, adding that the horse appeared unfazed by the exertion. “He walked back as if he hadn’t had a race. I think he is an aeroplane!” he remarked, suggesting that Bow Echo has the capacity to perform strongly once again at Royal Ascot.

Trained by George Boughey, Bow Echo has quickly emerged as a leading contender in the three-year-old mile division, with his Newmarket success marking him as one of the standout thoroughbreds of the season. His strong finish in the 2,000 Guineas has set high expectations for his performance in the upcoming St James’s Palace Stakes, one of the highlights of the Royal Ascot meeting.
