A recent injury to opener Emilio Gay, who sustained a shoulder problem playing for Durham in the One Day Cup, has added uncertainty to England’s top order ahead of the series opener. England’s selectors are currently evaluating the severity of Gay’s injury as they consider potential partners for opener Ben Duckett. With limited options possessing significant Test experience, Pope could be called upon to step up, potentially taking on a role at the top of the order for only the second time in his international career.
