Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has described his current form as the best phase of his career as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup. The 30-year-old forward concluded the 2025-26 season on a high note, scoring twice in Villa’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium. His brace brought his total goal tally for the season to 21 across all competitions under manager Unai Emery.

Watkins has enjoyed a successful campaign with Aston Villa, having helped secure a Europa League winners’ medal and qualification for next season’s Champions League. Reflecting on his progress, Watkins highlighted his individual improvement and overall confidence as key factors in his recent scoring streaks.

“After winning a European trophy and qualifying for the Champions League, scoring 21 goals this season, I feel like I’m playing my best football and have never felt better mentally and physically,” he said. Watkins acknowledged past challenges earlier in the season but emphasized how he has managed to turn things around. He expressed satisfaction in his ability to maintain strong runs of form and credited the team’s performance for boosting his confidence.

“I’ve had good spells before, but this is the best I’ve ever been in terms of scoring multiple braces and overall contributions,” Watkins said. “I knew a good run was coming, and thankfully it aligned well with the team’s performances. If I had scored a few more early on, who knows where I could have ended up, but everything happens for a reason.”

Looking ahead, Watkins is focused on contributing to England’s campaign at the World Cup, set to take place in North America this summer. While the outcome remains uncertain, he remains optimistic about his return to Villa Park and the opportunities that lie ahead following the tournament.
