Six-time Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte has joined the Missouri State swimming program as an assistant coach, the university announced Tuesday. Lochte will work with both the men’s and women’s teams under head coach Dave Collins, beginning later this summer.

Lochte, 41, is one of the most decorated swimmers in Olympic history, having earned a total of 12 medals across four Summer Games. His expertise and competitive experience are expected to bring valuable insights to Missouri State’s swimming programs.

Before his professional career, Lochte competed collegiately at the University of Florida, where he achieved significant success, winning 18 long-course and 21 short-course world championships. His transition to coaching marks a new chapter following his retirement from competitive swimming.

Missouri State aims to benefit from Lochte’s extensive background as it seeks to strengthen its swimming programs in the coming seasons. The university’s athletics department expressed optimism about the impact Lochte could have on developing student-athletes.

Details regarding Lochte’s specific roles and responsibilities with the teams were not disclosed, but his involvement is anticipated to begin in time for preparations leading into the 2026-2027 collegiate swim season.
