A man was arrested following an alleged assault and threats during a "river rage" incident on the Thames in Maidenhead over the recent bank holiday weekend. The confrontation involved British Olympic rower Jack Beaumont, who reportedly intervened in the dispute.

A video circulating online shows Beaumont, a silver medallist in the men’s quadruple sculls at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, confronting a man aboard a motorised cruiser. The clip captures the man directing profanities at Beaumont, telling him to “shut the f*** up” and asserting, “I did nothing wrong. You f***ers think you own the water.” At one point, the motorboat appears to accelerate toward Beaumont’s single scull before veering away.

The exact circumstances leading up to the confrontation remain unclear. However, witnesses indicated the man was involved in a prior incident with another rower, which allegedly included a collision. One eyewitness described Beaumont’s actions as skillfully diverting the speedboat away from the rowers, potentially preventing a more serious outcome.

Local club Maidenhead Rowing Club characterised the event as a “serious and dangerous incident.” Thames Valley Police confirmed that a man in his sixties from Windsor had been taken into custody. He faces several charges, including criminal damage, threats to kill, a Section 4 Public Order Act offence, common assault, and operating a watercraft in a manner endangering people or property.

Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the events or has relevant information to come forward. Beaumont was not available for comment at the time of the report.
