British Olympic showjumper Scott Brash is under investigation following a fatal traffic collision in Spain that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old motorcyclist. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. last Thursday near Oliva, a town on Spain’s Costa Blanca, south of Valencia.
Brash, 40, was driving an Audi Q3 at the time of the crash, with 26-year-old Sira Martinez, the daughter of Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, as his passenger. Both Brash and Martinez, who is also a showjumper, reportedly escaped the collision without injury. The motorcyclist died at the scene.
Spanish authorities have confirmed that the driver, referred to as a "British car driver," is being investigated on suspicion of manslaughter. Officials indicated that the accident involved the motorbike colliding with the side of Brash’s vehicle and that the driver may have made an improper turn prior to the crash. Police also noted that the driver passed both drug and alcohol tests following the incident.
A formal report on the case has been submitted to a local court, which is expected to summon Brash for questioning. Police have not provided additional details regarding the investigation, and Brash has not yet issued a public statement.
Scott Brash is a prominent figure in British equestrian sports, having won two Olympic gold medals in showjumping. He secured his first gold as part of the British team at the London 2012 Games and repeated the achievement in the team event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Brash, from Peebles in the Scottish Borders, was also awarded an MBE for his sporting accomplishments.
Martinez, the only surviving daughter of former Barcelona player Luis Enrique, has been publicly linked to Brash, though neither has confirmed their relationship. She has been previously connected to footballer Ferran Torres. Brash’s long-term girlfriend, Hannah Colman, who works as his travelling head groom, has not been reported as involved or present during the incident.
The investigation is ongoing as local authorities prepare to proceed with legal inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
