Oman is advancing its efforts to integrate drone technology and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) solutions across six priority sectors as part of a national demonstrator programme aimed at supporting the country's emerging next-generation aviation strategy. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MoTCIT) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The Oman AAM Strategic Demonstrator Programme reached a significant milestone with the closing of the Expressions of Interest (EOI) submission period on October 25. The programme provides a controlled regulatory environment, termed the National AAM Sandbox, where Omani and international entities—including aircraft operators, technology developers, manufacturers, and research institutions—can test and showcase innovative aviation technologies.
The programme focuses on six key application areas: air taxi services, agricultural operations, cargo and delivery logistics, security and surveillance, healthcare and emergency medical services, and aerial imaging and inspection. These sectors have been identified based on their potential to benefit from drone and AAM technologies, with anticipated impacts on passenger mobility, logistics efficiency, agricultural productivity, emergency response capabilities, public safety, and infrastructure monitoring across Oman.
Participants in the programme are expected to deploy and test a range of aircraft, drones, sensors, payloads, and related technologies. This hands-on approach will allow regulators to assess operational feasibility, safety standards, and commercial viability in real-world conditions, facilitating the development of a robust framework for future aviation solutions.
With the EOI phase now closed, the programme has moved into the evaluation and shortlisting stage, setting the stage for subsequent demonstration activities that will further shape Oman’s approach to integrating advanced air mobility into its transportation and service sectors.
