Oman and Jordan have formalized a new partnership to strengthen cooperation in social development through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on September 16 in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate. The agreement aims to facilitate collaboration and expertise exchange between the two countries’ ministries responsible for social development.

The signing occurred during the fourth session of an initiative focused on promoting independent living for persons with disabilities, currently underway in Salalah. The MoU was signed by Dr. Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Oman's Minister of Social Development, and Wafaa Bani Mustafa, Jordan’s Minister of Social Development.

Under the terms of the agreement, a joint technical committee composed of experts from both countries will be established to coordinate activities and oversee progress. Key areas identified for cooperation include rehabilitation and social care for people with disabilities, the sharing of legislation and best practices concerning the employment of persons with disabilities, and expertise exchange on transitioning from institutional care models to family-based care systems.

The partnership also extends to collaboration on developing handicrafts and handmade products, with plans to jointly organize exhibitions to showcase the work of exceptional families. Additional aspects of the MoU address care for the elderly, the management of social associations, volunteering initiatives, corporate social responsibility programs, and coordination of cash assistance schemes.

This agreement reflects a shared commitment by Oman and Jordan to enhance social welfare frameworks and promote inclusive development practices within their respective societies. Both nations view the collaboration as a step toward improving services and support for vulnerable populations through sustained knowledge-sharing and joint initiatives.
