KATHMANDU — Officials from Oman and Nepal convened for the second session of political consultations in Kathmandu to review and expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The meeting took place on October 10, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries.

The Omani delegation was led by Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, while Nepal was represented by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in areas such as investment, education, cultural exchange, agriculture, fertilizers, and air transport. Officials highlighted the potential for boosting trade, increasing investment flows, and broadening joint economic ventures.

The consultations also addressed consular issues and reviewed existing bilateral agreements. Both sides exchanged perspectives on regional developments impacting their countries and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

The meeting included participation from senior diplomats, notably Issa bin Saleh al Shibani, Oman's Ambassador to India, and Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Mohammad al Hosni, Head of the Asia and Pacific Department at Oman’s Foreign Ministry. Representatives from Nepalese government ministries also joined the talks.

In addition to the formal consultations, Shaikh Al Harthi engaged in bilateral meetings with Nepal’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment and the Minister of Youth, Labor, and Employment. These discussions aimed to identify specific areas for cooperation in agriculture and workforce development.

The session reflected a commitment by both Oman and Nepal to deepen their longstanding relationship and explore new opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration.
