Oman and Sudan have agreed to enhance their cooperation in ports, maritime transport, and logistics through a newly signed memorandum of understanding, aiming to boost economic development and connectivity between the two countries. The agreement follows high-level discussions in Muscat between Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Oman's Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Saif Al Nasr al Tijani, Sudan’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.

During the meeting, the officials explored opportunities to expand collaboration in transport services, port operations, and logistics, with a focus on developing partnerships that benefit both nations’ economic interests. The memorandum of understanding, signed by Asyad Ports and Free Zones—a subsidiary of the Asyad Group—and Sudan's Sea Ports Corporation, lays the groundwork for future cooperation in port management, maritime transport, and the development of supply chains.

The agreement emphasizes collaboration in several key areas, including port planning and infrastructure development, as well as the sharing of technical and administrative expertise. It also provides for joint training programs, workshops, and reciprocal visits designed to strengthen institutional capabilities and operational knowledge in both countries. A central aspect of the partnership is a focus on digital transformation within the ports sector, with both parties agreeing to investigate the adoption of advanced technologies and international best practices to enhance efficiency and service quality.

Officials highlighted that the memorandum will serve as a framework for identifying prospective joint projects and investment ventures aimed at reinforcing maritime trade links and improving logistical connectivity between Oman and Sudan. This step represents a strategic effort by both countries to integrate their maritime sectors and leverage emerging opportunities in regional trade and transport infrastructure development.
