Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, met with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the British House of Commons, in London on Tuesday to discuss strengthening the longstanding relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom. The officials emphasized the importance of deepening ties and enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
During his visit, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi was also hosted at the British Parliament headquarters upon the invitation of Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, along with representatives from the Council for Arab-British Understanding. The meetings underscored the significance of parliamentary engagement in fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between the two countries.
This visit follows a recent state visit by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the United Kingdom, which has been described as revitalizing bilateral relations and expanding opportunities for partnership. The interactions between Omani and British officials aim to maintain steady communication channels at both political and institutional levels, facilitating collaborative efforts on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Officials highlighted that reinforcing parliamentary ties serves as a foundation for cooperation, supporting the alignment of perspectives on topics relevant to security, stability, and development in the wider region. The ongoing dialogue seeks to promote shared interests and encourage joint initiatives going forward.
