The Board of Directors of the Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education (OAQAE) convened its inaugural meeting under the new board formation on Sunday in Muscat to review the authority’s strategic priorities and operational framework. Chaired by Dr. Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board, the session focused on strengthening the education quality assurance system and improving performance standards across educational institutions in Oman.
During the meeting, the Board examined the competencies, roles, activities, and key projects of the authority, aligning them to enhance the effectiveness of institutional oversight in the education sector. Additionally, members reviewed and approved the internal regulations governing the Board’s work, including its decision-making procedures and delineation of responsibilities, aiming to boost institutional efficiency and ensure alignment with the Authority’s goals.
The Board also approved the estimated budget for fiscal year 2027 after evaluating the primary pillars, programs, and upcoming projects outlined by the Authority. This budget is intended to support the implementation of strategic plans and address the priorities set for advancing education quality assurance in Oman.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to briefing the Board on the Authority’s strategic plan for the period 2026 to 2030. This plan articulates the strategic directions and objectives designed to develop the national education quality assurance framework, improve institutional performance, and elevate the level of services and initiatives offered by the Authority. The plan is intended to harmonize with broader national strategies, including Oman Vision 2040, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing the education sector and reinforcing quality standards at all levels.
