Oman Cricket recently wrapped up the 2025 edition of the Cricket4Her Indoor and Outdoor Cup, marking the third year of its ongoing initiative to develop and promote women’s cricket throughout the Sultanate of Oman. The programme aims to foster participation by introducing players to the sport through engaging softball formats, while establishing pathways for athletes to progress to competitive hardball cricket.
This year’s events drew more than 300 participants across both indoor and outdoor tournaments, indicating a growing interest and involvement in women’s cricket within the country. The initiative has contributed to strengthening the existing talent pool and has spurred the formation of several new community teams, expanding the sport’s grassroots reach.
In the outdoor competition, the team AGNI emerged as champions after delivering a dominant performance throughout the tournament. Women’s Cricket Sohar (WCS) finished as runners-up. The semifinals featured matchups between Women’s Cricket Sohar and Oman Cricket Academy Blue, as well as ISC Manglorean Konkani Wing facing AGNI.
The indoor tournament saw Kool Knight Riders claim the championship title, with AGNI finishing closely behind as runners-up. The indoor format continues to serve as an accessible entry point for new players, allowing them to develop skills and confidence in a comfortable environment. Meanwhile, the outdoor matches reflected the increasing standard of women’s cricket in Oman, with notable improvements in player skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The tournaments concluded with a closing ceremony attended by Paul Sheridan, Vice-Chairman of Oman Cricket, and Duleep Mendis, Chief Development Officer of Oman Cricket. Their presence underscored the organisation’s dedication to the sustained growth and development of women’s cricket in the country.
Speaking on the programme’s progress, Duleep Mendis highlighted the positive impact of the Cricket4Her initiative, noting the year-on-year increase in participant numbers as encouraging. He also praised the emergence of new community teams, which he said had maximised participation and broadened the playing base. Mendis emphasized Oman Cricket’s support for players aiming to advance from softball formats to hardball cricket, with the ultimate goal of representing Oman at the national level.
