Oman’s national para athletics and cycling teams have commenced final preparations at the athletes’ village ahead of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, which are scheduled to take place from October 18 to 24. The delegation, comprising athletes, coaches, and officials, was formally welcomed with a flag-raising ceremony on Friday, marking Oman’s official entry into the continental event that features participants from 45 countries and territories.
Dr. Mansour bin Sultan al Tooqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee and head of the delegation, attended the ceremony along with delegation administrator Rahma al Hajri, coaching staff members, and athlete representatives. Following the opening events, the teams began training sessions at the competition venues, focusing on final technical and physical preparations.
These training activities are the culmination of a comprehensive preparation program led by the Oman Paralympic Committee in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The program included domestic and international training camps and participation in prior competitions, designed to help athletes meet the qualifying standards for the Games.
In Nagoya, the athletes are concentrating on maintaining physical conditioning, fine-tuning event-specific techniques, and adjusting to local climate and time zone differences. The schedule aims to help competitors establish consistent routines ahead of their respective events.
National para athletics coach Sami al Razli reported that preparations were proceeding as planned. He highlighted the importance of early arrival in allowing athletes to acclimate to their environment and develop mental and physical stability. Al Razli expressed confidence in the athletes’ readiness and emphasized the goal of representing Oman with distinction through strong, focused performances.
Running coach Abdullah al Anbari noted that the current training phase builds on earlier work completed during the preparation period. He stressed the value of maintaining fitness and consolidating technique while sustaining readiness for the specific demands of competition. Al Anbari also underscored the need for athletes to adhere closely to their training plans and to approach the upcoming races with confidence and focus.
