Oman’s national basketball team ended their FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers first round with a 76-62 victory over Nepal at the Shabab Al Ahli venue in Dubai on September 1. The win snapped Oman’s three-game losing streak in Group A but was insufficient to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Competing in a group alongside Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Nepal, Oman finished fourth with five points—one point ahead of Nepal. The three qualifying spots were claimed by Bahrain, UAE, and Kuwait, who finished first, second, and third respectively. Bahrain led the group with a perfect record of eight points, followed by UAE with seven and Kuwait with six.

Oman entered their final match determined to put an end to a series of defeats suffered against Kuwait (88-63), Bahrain (106-62), and UAE (115-89). They quickly established control in the opening quarter, using effective ball movement and improved offensive execution to build a 29-15 lead. Nepal mounted a comeback in the second quarter as Oman’s scoring slowed to eight points, allowing Nepal to narrow the gap to 37-31 at halftime.

After the break, Oman regained composure, enhancing their offensive organization in the third quarter and extending their lead to 55-46 entering the final period. Despite Nepal's efforts to close the gap late, Oman managed the closing minutes effectively, outscoring Nepal 21-16 in the fourth quarter to secure the 14-point win.

While the victory marked a positive conclusion to a challenging qualifying campaign, Oman fell short of the threshold needed to move forward in the tournament. The team’s performance in Dubai offered valuable experience against a range of opponents and provided a foundation on which to build in future competitions.
