Oman is advancing its exploration of drone technology to enhance multiple sectors, including security, agriculture, infrastructure, oil and gas, and emergency response, aligning with the country’s broader goals for innovation and economic diversification outlined in Oman Vision 2040.

A recent high-level workshop convened representatives from several government bodies such as the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The event also included participants from industrial and energy sectors, emphasizing a collaborative approach to integrating unmanned aerial systems (UAS) across the nation.

During the workshop, key applications for drone technology were identified. These include border surveillance, precision agriculture to improve crop management, environmental monitoring, infrastructure inspection, pipeline surveillance, and mapping. The event also underscored the importance of technology transfer to support domestic capacity building in drone operations and maintenance.

The workshop was organized by Fcourier, a Chinese aerospace technology company whose founding engineers previously contributed to China’s C919 and ARJ21 commercial aircraft projects. Fcourier partnered with Irfan Trading Company Oman to facilitate the event and showcase the expanding role of drones in supporting Oman’s technological and economic development.

This initiative reflects Oman’s strategic efforts to leverage emerging technologies to advance its development agenda and enhance security and operational efficiency in critical sectors.
