The Oman Investment Authority is spearheading the creation of a $1.5 billion sovereign wealth and private equity fund aimed at bolstering economic development in Central Asia and the Caucasus. The formal signing of the fund agreement is expected in early November. This fund will focus investments on sectors such as logistics, renewable energy, mining, food, agriculture, and healthcare across countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
With a combined population of approximately 86 million, the targeted region is rich in natural resources like oil, gas, gold, copper, uranium, and hydroelectric power. The fund seeks to generate long-term economic growth by fostering partnerships and joint ventures that stimulate corporate expansion and investment flows, leveraging the Oman Investment Authority’s established reputation to attract sovereign wealth funds, investment institutions, and international investors.
The initiative marks the largest cross-border fund management venture for the Oman Investment Authority, which traditionally focuses on assets within Oman. The establishment of this regional fund aligns with Oman Vision 2040’s goals of diversifying the country’s economy and expanding investments beyond national borders. Deputy CEO Saad bin Mohammed Al-Jarf highlighted the fund as a strategic move that underscores the authority’s credibility among sovereign investors and enhances Oman’s economic ties with Central Asia and the Caucasus.
Officials expect that the fund will also contribute to knowledge transfer and sustainable development in the region, promoting sectors that support both economic diversification and income generation. Plans include leveraging related joint investment companies to further extend investment opportunities and partnerships.
Overall, this new fund signifies a concerted effort by Oman to deepen economic cooperation with neighboring regions, capitalizing on emerging market potential while supporting broader objectives to encourage sustainable and diversified growth domestically and abroad.
