Oman LNG has dispatched its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo aboard the newly introduced Muscat LNG vessel, marking a significant advancement in the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to enhance its role as a dependable global energy supplier. The shipment was loaded at the Oman LNG terminal in Sur before the vessel set sail for international markets.

Muscat LNG, owned by Asyad Shipping, is the first of two newly constructed LNG carriers scheduled to enter service this year, with a second vessel expected to arrive in July. The addition of these vessels is set to expand Oman’s LNG shipping capacity and strengthen cooperation across the country’s energy, maritime, and logistics sectors.

The carrier features dual-fuel propulsion and incorporates advanced technologies aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. This aligns with ongoing global initiatives to decarbonize maritime transport and reduce the environmental impact of shipping operations.

Hamed bin Mohammed al Naamany, Chief Executive Officer of Oman LNG, described the inaugural voyage as a key milestone in bolstering the company’s LNG export capabilities. He highlighted the collaboration with national partners, including Asyad Shipping, and the shared commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and reliability in delivering energy to international customers.

This development is part of Oman’s broader strategy, detailed in Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on enhancing value within the national energy ecosystem. Investments span the entire LNG value chain from gas production and liquefaction to shipping and global delivery, reinforcing Oman’s ambition to establish itself as a regional energy and logistics hub.

Established in 1994, Oman LNG remains one of the country’s principal energy enterprises and a major contributor to national revenue after oil exports. In addition to its core energy operations, the company is involved in various social development projects, including initiatives in entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, tourism, and women’s empowerment.

The Oman LNG Development Foundation, the company’s investment arm, holds a 10 percent stake in Muscat LNG. This investment reflects a strategic focus on national growth across the energy, shipping, and logistics sectors.

The introduction of Muscat LNG and the forthcoming deployment of the second carrier are expected to enhance Oman’s capacity to transport LNG with nationally affiliated assets, improving supply chain resilience and supporting the long-term expansion of the country’s gas export sector.
