Oman’s Olympic football team secured a 2-0 victory over Tajikistan in a friendly match held on October 3 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat. The fixture marked the team’s return to international competition following an extended hiatus from training camps.
The match formed part of an ongoing internal training camp led by national head coach Badr al Maimani, which runs from September 26 to October 7. This extended camp is a significant step for the Olympic side, coming after nearly six months without a full training gathering. The last camp, held in March, lasted only five days.
During the Muscat camp, the coaching staff are focusing on restoring match fitness, enhancing technical and physical preparation, and improving squad coordination in advance of upcoming regional contests. Al Maimani called up 24 players with the goal of assessing their condition, testing various tactical options, and identifying those best suited to the team’s strategic needs.
The friendly against Tajikistan provided an important opportunity to evaluate the players after a prolonged period away from regular national team action. It also serves as a key component of the build-up to the West Asia competition scheduled for November. The coaching staff intend to use such matches to help players regain competitive momentum and to fine-tune the team’s overall performance.
Oman and Tajikistan are scheduled to face each other again in Muscat on October 6 for a second friendly. This return fixture will allow Al Maimani and his technical team to rotate players, implement adjustments based on observations from the initial encounter, and continue developing cohesion within the squad as preparations intensify.
