The Oman Tennis Association has dispatched 13 junior players to a training camp at Smash Tennis Academy in Cairo, Egypt, as part of its ongoing efforts to prepare for upcoming regional and international tennis competitions. The camp, which began this month and will continue until mid-August, marks the second consecutive year the association has held this initiative at the Egyptian facility.
The training camp is divided into three groups based on age categories: under-10, under-14, and under-16. The first group, consisting of five under-16 players, started training on July 21 and will remain in Cairo until August 15. This delegation is led by Sara bint Abdulmajid al Balushi and includes Abdulrahman bin Hamad al Rahbi, Moataz bin Issa al Mazroui, Areen bint Hafidh al Azkawi, Salma bint Issa al Riyami, and Talia bint Issam al Busaidy. These athletes will be training alongside junior players from Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
The second group, comprising five players under the age of 10, is scheduled to arrive in Cairo on July 25 for a camp lasting through August 15. This younger group is managed by Ahmed bin Ibrahim al Balushi and includes Omar bin Warith al Shaibani, Hatim bin Ahmed al Rahbi, Hood bin Khalid al Hashmi, Fayyadh bin Hatim al Hilali, and Ali bin Issa al Riyami.
The final group includes three under-14 players—Munther bin Amil al Amri, Imad bin Ahmed al Rahbi, and Reema bin Khalid al Hashmi—who will train from July 25 until August 8. They will be supervised by delegation manager Mohammed bin Abdullah al Dairi.
According to the Oman Tennis Association, the primary aim of the camp is to enhance the technical skills, physical conditioning, and competitive experience of the young athletes, facilitating their readiness for forthcoming international tournaments, including the 2027 Billie Jean King Cup Juniors and Davis Cup Juniors.
Sara al Balushi highlighted the benefits of training at Smash Tennis Academy, noting its reputation as one of Egypt’s leading tennis training centers. She emphasized that the academy offers an excellent environment for Omani players to develop by training alongside top junior athletes from several Arab nations, including national teams from Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
