Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has entered into an agreement with Al Mursal Trading and Investment LLC to develop a new integrated tourism complex in Barka, located in the Al Batinah South Governorate. The project, named Malakai, will feature a luxury resort and freehold villas spanning approximately 800,000 square meters.

The agreement was formalized on October 20, with Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said al Busaidi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, and Kirvi Pankaj Khimji, representing Al Mursal Trading and Investment, signing the deal. The development is planned to proceed in phases, combining hospitality, leisure, and residential components within an agricultural landscape.

The resort is designed to include 51 accommodation units ranging from individual rooms to three-bedroom suites. Amenities will consist of a gym, spa facilities, and outdoor lounges. Additionally, 51 residential villas will be available for freehold ownership. The project’s design draws inspiration from traditional Omani walled gardens and the surrounding coastal plains’ agricultural environment, incorporating natural elements such as palm groves and water features. The development aims to maintain the site’s geographical and cultural heritage while emphasizing privacy and personalized service for guests.

According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Malakai is expected to bolster efforts to attract foreign investment and enhance Oman’s luxury and wellness tourism sectors. The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, targeting economic diversification by increasing tourism’s contribution to the country’s gross domestic product. The project also anticipates creating both direct and indirect employment opportunities and supporting local suppliers through increased business activity.
