The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Washington convened the inaugural meeting of the “Inter Astra Oman” initiative via video conference, marking a new phase in space sector collaboration between Oman and the United States. The session brought together Omani space industry companies, government representatives, and American institutions and firms involved in the initiative.
Scheduled as a 12-month program, the initiative aims to forge strategic partnerships by mapping the current capabilities, needs, and future trajectories of Omani companies. By connecting these enterprises with U.S. partners possessing relevant expertise, technical capacity, and investment resources, the initiative intends to foster business and investment opportunities, facilitate technology transfer, and promote joint projects with economic value.
The meeting is part of the embassy’s broader efforts to advance economic and technological ties between the two nations within the space sector. It aligns with Oman’s Vision 2040 and the National Policy and Executive Programme for the Omani Space Sector (2023-2033), both of which emphasize expanding collaborations with leading American organizations to accelerate the growth of Oman’s space industry.
First Secretary Khalid bin Abdullah al Balushi, who oversees space cooperation at the Omani embassy, outlined several potential areas for bilateral cooperation during the meeting. Participants discussed ambitions, challenges, and prospects for future engagement, aiming to establish sustainable commercial and technological partnerships.
The initiative also seeks to enhance the competitiveness and capabilities of Omani space companies by leveraging American expertise and resources. Ultimately, it is designed to support the expansion of Oman’s space sector, generate new economic opportunities, and strengthen the country’s role in the regional and global space industry landscape.
