The Oman Shooting Club (OSC) announced that its 2026 Women’s Shooting Championship will take place from October 11 to 24, featuring competitions in pistol and rifle shooting. The event, supported by the Oman Automobile Association (OAA), aims to promote women’s participation in shooting sports and align with the broader goal of recognizing women’s contributions in society.
The championship will begin with the pistol competition, followed by the rifle contest, each spanning one week. Mohammed al Maamari, Acting Director-General of OSC, stated that the extension of the event period was made in response to participant feedback to allow adequate time for each discipline. He expressed expectations for approximately 500 participants in each category, encouraging women of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced shooters, to join the event.
Scheduled to coincide with Omani Women’s Day on October 17, the championship underscores efforts to increase female representation in sport and highlights the nation’s commitment to supporting women’s advancement. Al Maamari pointed to the Royal attention devoted to women’s development in Oman and emphasized the club’s specialized facilities as a platform for nurturing shooting talent.
The event’s format was outlined at a recent press conference held at the club, with details provided on competition rules, safety protocols, prizes, and results processing. Pistol shooters will compete from a standing position at 15 meters, firing seven shots each, including two sighting shots and five shots for scoring. The rifle event will take place over a 40-meter distance, using the same number and structure of shots, with a maximum possible score of 50 points. Daily results will be calculated and announced after competitions conclude.
Prize money totals RO 2,000, distributed equally across the two disciplines. Winners in each category will receive RO 500, with runner-ups awarded RO 300 and third-place finishers RO 200. Top competitors will also be recognized with medals and shields, and the closing ceremony will feature additional prize draws, gifts, and vouchers for attendees.
Club coach Afraa al Shammakhi provided technical details about the competition setup, underscoring safety and precision as key elements of the championship. Farah al Balushi highlighted the inclusivity of the competition, welcoming female shooters from both civilian and military sectors and stressing the importance of opportunities that allow women to showcase their skills.
Al Maamari acknowledged the OAA’s continuing support for the club’s initiatives and the overall development of shooting as a sport in Oman. Organizers hope that the championship will not only identify new talent but also foster long-term engagement with shooting among women across the country.
