Omani football clubs are preparing to participate in multiple regional and continental competitions during the 2026-2027 season, demonstrating the Sultanate’s growing presence in Asian and Gulf football tournaments. Seeb Club and Al Nahda Club are set to compete in the AFC Champions League Two, while Al Shabab Club will represent Oman in the Gulf Club Champions League.
Seeb Club, historically the most successful Omani team in continental football, will return to the AFC Champions League Two following their landmark achievement in 2022, when they won the AFC Cup by defeating Kuala Lumpur City of Malaysia 3-0 in the final. This victory remains a significant milestone for Omani club football. More recently, Seeb participated in the 2025-2026 AFC Challenge League, opening their group stage campaign with a 3-2 victory against Bashundhara Kings of Bangladesh, and securing a 1-1 draw with Kuwait SC. However, a 2-1 defeat to Lebanon’s Al Ansar in their final group match prevented them from advancing to the knockout stage. Despite the early exit, their prior continental success provides motivation for a deeper run in the upcoming season.
Al Nahda Club, based in Buraimi, will also compete in the AFC Champions League Two, bringing considerable experience from previous continental campaigns. The club’s history includes reaching the AFC Cup semifinals in 2008 and progressing to the West Zone final in the 2023-2024 edition, where they were eliminated by Lebanon’s Al Ahed. Al Nahda earned their spot in the upcoming competition following a domestic triumph in the 2025-2026 season, winning His Majesty’s Cup with a 2-0 victory over Oman Club in the final held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. This success is expected to bolster the team’s confidence as they seek strong results on the Asian stage.
Al Shabab Club will take part in the Gulf Club Champions League after an encouraging showing in the 2025-2026 AFC Challenge League. The club advanced to the quarterfinals, marking one of the most notable Omani performances in recent years. Al Shabab started their campaign with a 2-1 win against FC Abdysh-Ata of Kyrgyz Republic, followed by a 3-1 victory over Turkmenistan’s Altyn Asyr to secure passage to the knockout rounds. Their run concluded with a 5-3 quarterfinal defeat to Kuwait SC in Bishkek. The experience gained during this campaign is seen as valuable preparation for their upcoming Gulf competition.
Collectively, these participations underscore the ambition and growing competitiveness of Omani football clubs across regional and continental tournaments, signaling progress in the development of football within the Sultanate.
