An artificial intelligence project developed by Omani innovator Aya bint Hamed al Kindi has been selected as one of the top 13 global entries to be showcased at the 67th London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF). The event, held in London, features innovative scientific projects from young researchers worldwide.

Oman’s participation in this year’s forum is coordinated by the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA), which is presenting 10 projects chosen from a competitive pool of 738 submissions across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Al Kindi’s project, known as Haris—meaning “guard” in Arabic—utilizes artificial intelligence to advance efforts against financial crimes, with a focus on money laundering. The Haris system processes financial data to identify suspicious patterns and assess risks more quickly and accurately than traditional methods.

Al Kindi highlighted the significance of her project’s international recognition, viewing it as evidence of Omani innovators’ capacity to develop impactful technological solutions in sectors such as financial security and financial technology. She noted that the achievement reflects the growing scientific capabilities of Omani youth and their expanding contributions to research addressing global challenges, including environmental sustainability, energy, and emerging technologies. These efforts align with the strategic objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes innovation and technological development as key pillars for national progress.
