Omani handball referees are set to participate in two upcoming international competitions in Pakistan and Thailand, underscoring the country’s growing role in the global handball officiating community and reflecting ongoing efforts to develop national refereeing talent.

The International Handball Federation (IHF) has selected continental referees Al Zahraa al Maashari and Lamia al Saadi to officiate at the IHF Trophy for Youth, scheduled to take place in Faisalabad, Pakistan, from November 4 to 9. The appointment marks their second international assignment since acquiring their continental refereeing credentials in May 2025, following their debut appearance at the IHF Trophy in Bangladesh.

This latest opportunity allows the pair to gain further international exposure by officiating matches that feature teams from diverse backgrounds and competitive levels. Their continued development signals progress in the skills and experience of Omani women referees, emphasizing the expanding opportunities for female officials to participate and establish themselves in the global handball refereeing arena.

Concurrently, continental referees Mutasim al Dughaishi and Muntasir al Dughaishi departed Oman on October 18 en route to Bangkok, Thailand, where they will officiate at the Handball Challenge Trophy from October 19 to November 2. Their nomination by the IHF provides a platform to further hone their officiating capabilities in a competitive international setting.

Participation in these tournaments offers the Omani referees exposure to the rigorous technical and professional demands inherent in international matches, requiring sharp decision-making, focus, and consistent rule enforcement. Additionally, the events serve as opportunities for knowledge exchange with officials from various countries, enhancing their ability to manage matches effectively at higher levels of competition.

The dual nominations underscore the emphasis placed on sustained investment in referee development and the importance of international engagement. Regular international assignments enable referees to sharpen their expertise, build confidence, and adhere to the standards expected in global handball officiating.

These selections also reflect the Oman Handball Association’s commitment to nurturing national refereeing talent and broadening Omani representation across regional and international handball events. By supporting both male and female officials, the association is advancing the professionalism and visibility of Omani referees on the world stage.
