Omani sailors made significant strides at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi Nagoya, Japan, showcasing their growing competitiveness in regional sailing while gaining valuable experience for future international events. The national team’s performances, particularly in the youth 29er and senior 49er classes, underscored Oman’s development within both emerging and high-performance sailing categories.

In their Asian Games debut, the youth 29er duo of Feras bin Haitham al Nabhani and Tamim bin Sulaiman al Balushi secured a fourth-place finish. This result was notable given the sailors’ limited experience in the technically demanding 29er class. Competing against more established teams from across Asia, the pair’s performance marked a key milestone in their development and offered exposure to the tactical demands and pressures of a major multi-sport event.

Meanwhile, the more experienced 49er team of Ahmed bin Ghareeb al Hasani and Waleed bin Issa al Kindi finished fifth in a highly competitive fleet. Their campaign highlighted Oman’s expanding presence in high-performance skiff classes and provided a benchmark for the team’s technical and strategic capabilities against some of Asia’s top sailors.

Officials emphasized that the results reflect a dual approach in Oman’s sailing program, balancing opportunities for younger athletes to gain crucial championship experience with maintaining competitive performances at the senior level. Abdulaziz bin Salim al Shidi, a member of the Oman Maritime Sports Committee, described the outcomes as important progress for Omani sailing, particularly praising the youth crew’s first appearance and the seasoned 49er team’s strong showing.

The campaign received support from the national team’s Gold Partner ELB&T Ltd and its local strategic partner Al Ramooz National LLC. Both partners commended the sailors’ dedication, attributing their success to effective preparation and long-term vision embedded in Oman Sail’s development strategy.

Looking ahead, the experience amassed during the Asian Games is expected to serve as a foundation for the sailors’ continued growth. The exposure to high-level competition allows the technical team and athletes to identify areas for improvement and align their training with the standards required for future podium finishes. The results bolster Oman’s ambition to advance its standing in Asian and international sailing and contribute toward the country’s longer-term Olympic aspirations.
