Oman's ETCO Space has entered into a cooperation agreement with the British company Open Cosmos to advance satellite technology and Earth observation capabilities. The partnership, formalized in London, aims to develop geospatial services and establish technical training and knowledge transfer programmes.
The agreement was signed by ETCO Space Chief Executive Dr. Abdulaziz bin Amer al Sawai and Open Cosmos Chief Technology Officer Jordi Barrera. Both companies intend to collaborate on the use of satellite imagery and geospatial data to support a variety of sectors, including coastal monitoring, pollution tracking, security, defence, energy, and mining.
Dr. al Sawai highlighted that the partnership builds on longstanding business relations between Oman and the United Kingdom. He emphasized the collaboration between technical professionals from both countries, focusing on enhancing Earth observation capabilities through high-quality satellite data. The initiative also prioritizes developing technical expertise and professional skills through dedicated training programmes.
ETCO Space aims to leverage this cooperation to improve its monitoring of Oman’s territorial waters, particularly in tracking environmental pollution and safeguarding coastal areas. Additionally, the partnership is expected to support broader applications in security and defence sectors, as well as in the energy and minerals industries.
The agreement provides a framework for ongoing collaboration in space and advanced technologies, reflecting a mutual commitment to expanding satellite-based services in Oman and beyond.
