Oman’s men’s national volleyball team extended its unbeaten run at the 24th Arab Men’s Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 comeback victory over Kuwait on Friday, October 9, at Arena Hall in Amman. After dropping the first set 17-25, Oman rallied to take the next three sets 25-20, 25-20, and 25-23, securing their third consecutive win in the round-robin tournament.

The victory brought Oman’s tally to eight points from three matches, allowing them to maintain their lead atop the standings as the championship heads toward its concluding fixtures. The Oman team demonstrated resilience, overcoming an early deficit to deny Kuwait a chance to push the match into a deciding fifth set. Kuwait started strong, dominating the opening set and putting Oman on the back foot. However, Oman swiftly improved their attacking efficiency and defensive coordination to claim the subsequent sets.

Prior to facing Kuwait, Oman had won their opening matches against Algeria and Saudi Arabia, prevailing 3-1 and 3-2 respectively. The team’s capacity to rebound after losing sets has been a key element of their campaign, highlighted by their composure in the tight five-set victory over Saudi Arabia.

Following the Friday matches, Oman leads the standings with eight points. Bahrain is in second place with six points after two wins, while Saudi Arabia and Algeria follow with four and three points respectively. Kuwait and Jordan have yet to register any points in the competition.

Oman is scheduled to play against host nation Jordan on Sunday, October 11, at 6 p.m. Oman time, with the team aiming to secure a fourth straight victory before their final match against Bahrain on October 14. Abdullah al Maqbali, a representative of the Oman team, emphasized the collective effort behind the team’s success so far. He highlighted the importance of teamwork, cooperation, and adherence to coaching strategies as factors that have contributed to the positive results.

Al Maqbali also acknowledged the challenges ahead, describing the upcoming encounter with Jordan as demanding given the home advantage enjoyed by the hosts. “We know the Jordan match will be difficult, but we respect every opponent and have confidence in our abilities,” he said. Oman’s focus remains on maintaining concentration for every set and point as they pursue the Arab championship title.

The tournament features six teams—Oman, Jordan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain—competing in a single round-robin format. The final standings will determine the championship winners and medalists, making Oman’s remaining two matches crucial for securing the title.
