A shooting in the eastern Dutch town of Overasselt on Tuesday left one person dead and two police officers injured, officials said. The incident, which took place near the German border in the early hours of the day, is believed to be linked to the criminal activities of a notorious drug trafficker.

Dutch authorities reported that several arrests were made in connection with the violence. Security camera footage obtained by local media showed a group of masked individuals armed with heavy weapons in the area surrounding the incident.

Local reports indicate that the shootout may be connected to Jos Leijdlekkers, also known as “Bolle Jos,” a prominent figure in the Netherlands’ drug trade. Leijdlekkers is considered one of the country’s most wanted criminals, with a history of convictions related to international cocaine trafficking. He is believed to be residing in Sierra Leone and is reportedly romantically involved with the daughter of Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio.

According to De Gelderlander, the fatality was a security guard employed at the residence where the shooting occurred. The same property was targeted in a previous shooting last year, according to police statements.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shootout and its connection to organized crime.
