One migrant died and 72 others were rescued from a small boat carrying more than 110 people attempting to reach the United Kingdom, French authorities reported.

The rescue occurred overnight between Thursday and Friday in the Gravelines area, located along the northern coast of France. The French coastguard monitored the vessel before dispatching a rescue ship to assist those aboard after receiving requests for help.

Upon boarding, rescue crews found one individual requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Despite efforts, the migrant was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, three other passengers sustained injuries, with one requiring urgent medical attention, according to a statement issued by the local French prefecture.

This incident follows a day in which 494 migrants successfully crossed the English Channel on Thursday, marking the first successful crossings to the UK in 10 days. The ongoing attempts underscore the persistent challenges faced by migrants seeking to reach the UK by sea.
