One Nation plans to establish its national headquarters in a newly acquired office building in Brisbane owned by mining billionaire Gina Rinehart’s property company, Hanrine. The three-storey office building, located in the suburb of Spring Hill, was purchased last week, according to Queensland property records.

Barnaby Joyce, a One Nation MP, defended the decision to move the party’s headquarters to the multimillion-dollar property, emphasizing that the party will pay market rent and not receive any special treatment. “It’s her building, it’s her lease. We’re leasing it off her at commercial rates,” Joyce said, stressing that the arrangement would involve no discount or “mate’s rates.”

The party intends to relocate its national office from its current site near Brisbane Airport once renovations to the Spring Hill building are completed. Joyce also noted that One Nation will cover the rent from its own funds, clarifying that party expenses related to office space are separate from parliamentary resources. Under current rules, office space for elected officials is funded by the Commonwealth, but not that of political parties themselves.

“If we’ve got an individual who’s got money, they should be allowed to spend it as they see fit,” Joyce added, addressing concerns about the association with Rinehart, who is one of Australia’s wealthiest individuals.

The purchase and arrangement reflect ongoing financial dealings between political parties and private investors in Australia, raising questions about the independence of party operations and funding sources. However, Joyce affirmed that One Nation’s use of the office and financial transactions remain transparent and strictly commercial.
