Trainer Ooi Chin Chin’s four-year-old filly All The Way North has impressed in her early racing appearances in Malaysia, suggesting she is capable of securing back-to-back wins. The daughter of Farnan made a successful debut on Sept. 27, leading throughout a 1,020-metre race to win by 3½ lengths under jockey Wong Chin Chuen. Wong’s confident ride required only minimal urging in the home stretch, with the filly finishing strongly and appearing to have further reserves.

All The Way North is set to tackle a slightly longer distance of 1,100 metres in Race 7 on Oct. 25, facing Class 3 competition. At a recent trackwork session on Oct. 21 at the Sungai Besi racecourse, the filly delivered a clean 600-metre workout in 36.7 seconds with Wong aboard, signaling preparedness for the upcoming challenge.

Another contender showing promise is Aquitaine from the stables of Simon Dunderdale. Rated at 79 points, the five-year-old Deep Field gelding completed a 600-metre training gallop in 39.8 seconds under jockey Wong. Aquitaine, owned by Buffalo Stable, has a consistent record at the Selangor Turf Club, finishing outside the top positions only once in 11 starts. He will seek his fifth victory in a 1,400-metre race on Oct. 25. Although his past wins have mainly been over longer distances between 1,500 and 1,600 metres, Aquitaine demonstrated strong speed in a 1,300-metre win in April, easing doubts about his stamina over the shorter trip.

Dunderdale is also entering Zed Or Alive in a Class 3 mile race (1,600 metres), another horse showing robust form. The six-year-old son of Zed completed a 600-metre exercise in 38.9 seconds with jockey A’sisuhairi Kasim at the reins. Zed Or Alive has been notably consistent in his previous six starts, securing three wins and placing in the other three races. His most recent victory came at 1,700 metres on Sept. 27, where he led from the start and maintained control to the finish.

In the Class 5 1,400-metre race, trainer Nick Selvan’s Big Max will be one to watch. The six-year-old by Charm Spirit posted a 600-metre workout of 39.3 seconds with jockey Jackson Low Kang Cheng. Though Big Max faded to sixth place after running near the front in a 1,275-metre race on Sept. 27, the longer distance on Oct. 25 may suit him better and improve his chances of placing on the board.
