Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, acting secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), accused the current opposition party of involvement in violent and extremist activities during a discussion held yesterday. Speaking as the chief guest at an event organized by the Jatiyatabadi Samomona Jote in Dhaka, Rizvi linked recent incidents of arson and crude bomb explosions in the city to elements within the opposition.

“We are witnessing fires and crude bomb explosions at different locations in Dhaka,” Rizvi said, questioning whether all such acts could be attributed to associates of the “fallen autocrat.” He further asserted that statements regarding self-confessed extremism were emerging from the opposition party currently assuming that role. According to Rizvi, the threats of violence originated from within their ranks, although he refrained from explicitly naming the party he was referring to.

His remarks came amid heightened political tensions in Bangladesh, with increasing incidents of unrest reported across Dhaka. The BNP’s allegations underscore ongoing concerns about security and stability as political rivalries intensify ahead of future electoral contests. No representatives of the opposition party have yet publicly responded to Rizvi’s accusations.
