Nasimul Goni, a 45-year-old regional leader of the banned Purba Banglar Communist Party, was shot and killed early Sunday near his home in Formaishkhana, Digholia upazila, Khulna.
According to local police, the attack occurred around 1:30 a.m. as Nasimul, also known as Nasim, was on his way to a nearby tea stall. Two individuals in a van intercepted him and opened fire, leaving him severely wounded. He was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Digholia Police Station, Khandaker Sanwar Hussain Masum, confirmed the incident and said Nasimul had been facing multiple legal cases prior to the shooting. Police recovered three bullet casings and three bullets at the scene and have launched an investigation to determine the motives behind the killing and to identify the perpetrators.
Authorities have not released further details on possible suspects or whether Nasimul’s political affiliations played a role in the attack. The investigation remains ongoing.
