Muscat recently witnessed the graduation of 125 engineers and specialists from 38 government entities following the completion of the “Imkan 3” programme, a government initiative focused on enhancing project management capabilities. The programme, which extended over more than six months, aims to improve the efficiency of national personnel involved in managing government projects and contracts.
The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of Eng Badr bin Salim al Maamari, Chairman of the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority, the organization responsible for overseeing the initiative. This year’s edition saw the participation of 15 government entities for the first time, signaling the programme’s expanding reach and growing importance among various government bodies.
According to Abdullah bin Saif al Hosni, Acting Adviser for Talent and Project Development at the Authority, “Imkan 3” builds upon the achievements of its predecessors, “Imkan 1” and “Imkan 2.” The programme seeks to establish an integrated platform designed to develop national competencies in government project and contract management. It also focuses on enhancing project management office systems across government entities and encourages employee rotation to foster broader experience and collaboration.
Additional objectives include creating a comprehensive competency framework for workers involved in project and contract management, classifying relevant job roles, and adopting a unified strategy to ensure project quality. The programme adheres to internationally recognized standards, supporting Oman’s broader efforts to develop national capabilities and optimize the management of government projects.
