Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW), the country’s largest annual sustainability campaign, has attracted participation from over one million community members since its inception in 2016, according to the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, part of Qatar Foundation. The campaign has grown steadily over the past decade, with the 11th edition scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 7.

QSW operates in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and aims to raise awareness of sustainability issues while encouraging public involvement across Qatar. Over the past ten years, the campaign has featured more than 3,400 events supported by approximately 2,000 partners, promoting environmental education and practical actions aligned with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The wide range of activities includes awareness programs, fairs, exhibitions, family-centered events, and sustainability initiatives that invite organizations, institutions, and individuals to organize local activities and engage their communities. By fostering grassroots participation, QSW seeks to “create a ripple effect” that motivates people to take ownership of environmental challenges and contribute to Qatar’s sustainable future.

The Earthna Center emphasizes the opportunity for partner organizations to showcase their leadership in sustainability by presenting innovations and technological solutions during the campaign. Participants also benefit from additional media exposure, including prominent placement on the QSW website, highlighting their contributions toward advancing sustainable practices.

Core initiatives supported by QSW include water conservation efforts through the installation of water-efficient and sensor-activated fixtures designed to minimize waste, as well as the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” campaign to cut down on disposable items, promote material repurposing, and encourage recycling of paper, plastics, metals, and organic waste. Another key focus is reducing food waste and turning organic materials into nutrient-rich compost, which helps divert waste from landfills and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

Through these interconnected activities, Earthna Center aims to inspire behavioral change and translate increased awareness of environmental issues into tangible, measurable actions throughout Qatar. The campaign aligns closely with the environmental development pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, contributing to the nation’s broader sustainability goals by uniting diverse efforts under a single, cohesive platform.
