More than 800 officers from the Metropolitan Police conducted coordinated early morning raids targeting the so-called “Hunt Syndicate,” a criminal network allegedly involved in fraud, money laundering, and serious violence. On Tuesday, authorities executed warrants at 24 properties across London and four surrounding counties, including Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, and Hertfordshire, resulting in 17 arrests.
The operation focused on dismantling the syndicate, which is believed to be led by David Hunt, nicknamed the “Long Fella” because of his height of 6 feet 5 inches. Hunt denies any involvement in criminal activity, maintains he is a legitimate businessman, and has no prior convictions. A police van was observed leaving his mansion in Hertfordshire, with officers conducting prolonged searches throughout the day.
The raids were carried out by a specialised tactical unit, during which a police officer was stabbed in the leg at an address in Cockfosters, north London. Police confirmed the injury was not life threatening. The Metropolitan Police are working in collaboration with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as part of the ongoing investigation.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson described the arrests as a “significant point” in the inquiry. The individuals detained are suspected of playing leading roles in serious organised crime and related financial offences. Searches are expected to continue over several days as authorities seek further evidence in the case.
