Myanmar’s Road Transport Administration Department (RTAD) reported that 932 people lost their lives in 1,686 traffic accidents during the first half of 2026. The data, spanning January to June, also recorded 2,371 injuries related to these incidents.

Among the country’s regions and states, Yangon Region experienced the highest incidence of traffic accidents with 360 cases, resulting in 191 fatalities and 444 injuries. This was followed by Ayeyawady Region, reporting 270 accidents with 113 deaths and 396 injuries, and Bago Region, which recorded 260 accidents leading to 122 deaths and 393 injuries. The statistics also include incidents occurring on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway.

When compared to the same period in 2025, the number of traffic accidents showed a marginal decrease from 1,692 to 1,686. Despite this slight decline in accidents, fatalities rose by approximately 4.5 percent, from 892 to 932 deaths, while the number of injuries fell by around 4.3 percent, from 2,478 to 2,371.

In response to these figures, the RTAD has emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations. The department urged all road users to exercise increased caution to enhance safety and reduce the occurrence of accidents going forward.
