A partial hillside collapse in the Hollywood Hills on Friday was caused by an overflowing pool, leading to the evacuation of several residents. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded around 3 p.m. to reports of flooding and the subsequent landslide on North Wilcox Avenue.

The collapse affected an area below an apartment building on Grace Avenue, prompting the evacuation of eight units. The exact number of residents displaced was not confirmed, as the Los Angeles Police Department managed the evacuations. Fire Department spokesperson Lyndsey Lantz later stated that the situation had stabilized by shortly after 5 p.m., allowing all evacuated residents to return to their homes.

Authorities identified a garden hose that had been continuously filling the pool above the hillside for an unspecified duration as the source of the flooding. The overflow led to soil saturation and the hill's partial collapse. The Fire Department drained the pool to prevent further instability.

Following the incident, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety issued red tags for the affected pool and parts of a damaged commercial building at the base of the hill. The building was already vacant at the time of the collapse. No injuries were reported in connection with the event.
