Two people were killed and more than a dozen others injured in a series of overnight shootings across Chicago, authorities reported early Sunday. The violence unfolded from Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday, following a weekend that had already seen multiple fatalities and injuries linked to gun violence around the Juneteenth holiday.

An 18-year-old man, identified as Aniyhas Jackson, was shot inside a residence in the Austin neighborhood on the 4800 block of West Quincy Street around 10 p.m. Saturday. Jackson sustained a gunshot wound to the armpit, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. A 17-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and a firearm was recovered.

Shortly before midnight, police attempted to disperse a large crowd in North Lawndale when gunfire erupted near the 1400 block of South Christiana Avenue. A 19-year-old man, who had been shot in the arm and groin, approached officers and was transported to Mount Sinai with serious injuries. At the same location, two women—aged 18 and 19—suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the buttocks. The 19-year-old woman came to the hospital on her own, while the 18-year-old was treated at the scene. Both were listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

In the early hours of Sunday, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in Englewood at approximately 6:15 a.m. The victim was found on the 5500 block of South Princeton Avenue with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Additional reported shootings included a 15-year-old boy shot during an argument near a Grand Boulevard business around 6 p.m. Saturday; a 49-year-old man shot in the Armour Square neighborhood; a 31-year-old man wounded in Roseland; a 40-year-old man brought to the University of Chicago Medical Center with gunshot injuries; a 36-year-old woman shot twice in West Garfield Park; a 17-year-old boy shot in Brighton Park; and a 22-year-old woman injured in West Pullman. Many victims were reported to be in critical or fair condition, with some arrests pending as investigations continue.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to curbing gun violence, emphasizing ongoing efforts to identify suspects and reduce the frequency of such incidents across the city.
