A significant number of British travelers are canceling their own holidays to attend expensive overseas weddings, according to recent research. The study, conducted by the home-swapping platform Kindred, reveals that nearly one in five Britons have scrapped their personal vacation plans to afford trips to destination weddings.

The survey also found that almost a third of respondents felt pressured to attend weddings abroad that they would have preferred to skip. Overall, seven in 10 people expressed concerns about the financial burden associated with traveling overseas for such events.

Justine Palefsky, representing Kindred, highlighted the impact of rising living costs on travel decisions. She noted that increasing expenses have made many individuals reluctant to commit to attending distant nuptials, reflecting broader economic strains affecting discretionary spending.

These findings suggest that the trend toward destination weddings is placing significant financial and social pressure on guests, leading some to re-evaluate their ability to participate in both weddings and their own holidays.
