A British couple on their honeymoon were separated after an easyJet flight to Tivat, Montenegro, was overbooked, forcing them to travel on different flights. Andy and Katya Wedlake had booked the flight well in advance and arrived at Gatwick Airport on Sunday, July 26, only to learn that the airline had sold more tickets than available seats.

The couple attempted to check in online before departure but were unable to do so. Upon arriving at the airport, they were informed that boarding was closed and that seat allocation would depend on whether other passengers failed to show up. When only one seat became available, ground staff instructed the couple that one must take the remaining seat to avoid being classified as a “no show,” which would result in forfeiting rebooking rights and compensation.

Consequently, Katya Wedlake boarded the flight to Montenegro, while Andy Wedlake returned home. The couple was reunited approximately 21 hours later after making separate travel arrangements to continue their honeymoon together. EasyJet has not publicly commented on the incident.
