Oxford United have dismissed manager Matt Bloomfield following the club’s relegation from the Championship. Bloomfield, who was appointed in January, took over with the team positioned second from bottom in the league but was unable to prevent their drop to League One after two seasons in the second tier.

The club’s struggles began earlier in the season, leading to the sacking of former manager Gary Rowett as relegation pressures intensified. Despite Bloomfield's efforts to stabilize the team, Oxford United finished the campaign in the relegation zone alongside Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday, both of whom have also been demoted.

The decision to part ways with Bloomfield reflects the club’s desire to immediately regroup and mount a challenge for promotion back to the Championship. Details regarding his replacement have yet to be announced. Oxford United will now prepare for the upcoming season in League One, aiming for a swift return to the second tier.
