Oxford United have announced the dismissal of manager Matt Bloomfield following the club’s relegation from the Championship. The club's two-year tenure in the second tier came to an end after they finished 22nd in the league, dropping to League One for the upcoming season.
Bloomfield was appointed in January 2026 as a replacement for Gary Rowett, who was relieved of his duties amid a mounting relegation threat. At the time of Bloomfield’s arrival, Oxford United were second from bottom, having won only one of their previous ten matches. Despite some attempts to stabilize the team, consistent results ultimately proved elusive.
Oxford concluded the season four points adrift of safety, joining Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday in being relegated. The club acknowledged Bloomfield’s contributions, stating he had "represented Oxford United with professionalism and integrity."
The search for a new manager is now underway as the club looks to rebuild and prepare for life in League One.
