Three horses stood out during morning track sessions at Sungai Besi ahead of the upcoming Selangor Turf Club meeting on October 4, showcasing promising form over fast gallops on a track rated "good." Banker’s Super, Mega Storm, and Trident Rising clocked notable times during their 600-meter workouts on September 29, drawing attention from trainers and racing enthusiasts alike.
Banker’s Super, trained by Johnny Lim Boon Thong, completed the 600-meter gallop in 35.88 seconds. The five-year-old Churchill-bred runner is set to compete in a Class 3 race over 1,500 meters. Despite the challenging distance, Banker’s Super appears well prepared for the task. He has shown potential in five starts under Banker’s Stable, securing a narrow second place in a Class 4A event over 1,600 meters in April, followed by a fourth-place finish in May. Prior to being transferred to Malaysia and renamed, Banker’s Super raced as Casablanca in Australia, where he won twice over similar distances. This background suggests he has the capacity to secure his first win on Malaysian soil.
Mega Storm, another five-year-old gelding, clocked 35.95 seconds over 600 meters under jockey Oscar Chavez. Trained by Boon Lim and owned by the Mega Captain Stable, Mega Storm has a record of two wins from eight starts in Kuala Lumpur. Previously known as Storm Pegasus and trained by Ananthan Kuppan, the gelding’s victories include an Open Maiden race in December 2024 and a Class 4B race in January 2025. Although his recent performance under Lim saw him unplaced in a Class 4 race in early September, Mega Storm impressed with three trial wins prior to that start. Lim appears to have identified a suitable race for Mega Storm in the upcoming Class 4 event over 1,150 meters, suggesting the gelding remains a competitive contender.
Trident Rising, trained by Cheng Han Yong, recorded a 600-meter time of 36.2 seconds. The four-year-old son of Hello Youmzain captured attention with a decisive debut victory on September 13, winning a Class 3 race over 1,200 meters by 1¼ lengths while carrying 56 kilograms. Owned by the Tridentity Stable and ridden by Troy See, Trident Rising is set to return in a Class 3 race at the same distance but carrying an increased weight of 59 kilograms. Despite the added burden, Trident Rising’s considerable size, weighing around 530 kilograms, combined with his recent workout performance, indicates he is capable of handling the step up in weight and sustaining strong form.
As the Selangor Turf Club meeting approaches, these three runners are poised to be among the notable contenders, each exhibiting strong recent form and potential for success at the upcoming races.
