KUWAIT CITY — The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) has increased its inspection activities at slaughterhouses across Kuwait in preparation for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, officials said Friday. Mohammed Al-Salem, director of the Slaughterhouses Department at PAFN, underscored the authority’s commitment to ensuring that meat products meet approved health and safety standards before reaching consumers.
In a statement issued ahead of the annual religious festival, which involves the ritual sacrifice of animals, Al-Salem noted that intensified monitoring efforts aim to verify compliance with established regulations governing slaughterhouse operations. These measures are intended to prevent the distribution of unsafe or improperly processed meat, thereby protecting public health during a period of heightened demand.
Al-Salem also emphasized the importance of raising consumer awareness about the risks associated with purchasing meat from unlicensed outlets. He encouraged consumers to seek products only from authorized and licensed slaughterhouses, highlighting that licensed facilities adhere to stringent hygiene and safety protocols.
The enhanced inspection campaign includes regular tours and checks of slaughterhouses and related food establishments to ensure adherence to the health regulations that govern such operations. PAFN’s proactive measures come as part of an ongoing effort to maintain food safety standards in Kuwait’s meat supply chain, particularly during festivals that drive increased consumption.
With Eid al-Adha approaching, PAFN officials reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding public health by preventing the sale of contaminated or substandard meat, reiterating their role as a regulatory body responsible for oversight of the nation’s food safety infrastructure.
