A 17-year-old Palestinian footballer died on Saturday, a week after sustaining injuries during an attack by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. Fadi Hamdallah Al-Nassan, a player for Al-Mughayyir Club and a member of the Palestinian national youth team, succumbed to his wounds following the incident on July 11.

Mourners clad in black carried Al-Nassan’s body from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to his home village for burial. According to the Palestine Football Association, Israeli forces shot Al-Nassan in the thigh amid an assault by settlers on the village. His leg was subsequently amputated, but he died as a result of the injuries sustained.

Al-Nassan's father, Hamdallah Al-Nassan, recounted that his son had rushed to intervene after hearing the screams of women and girls during the attack. “He loved football,” the father said. “When the settlers attacked, he heard the screams of the girls and women. He went to the scene of the attack and was killed.”

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported additional details, stating that two other residents were hit by rubber bullets fired by Israeli forces, and a 10-year-old boy sustained a head injury from a stun grenade during the same incident.

Since the outbreak of conflict in Gaza in October 2023, the United Nations has noted a significant rise in violence linked to Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Israeli soldiers or settlers have killed at least 1,088 Palestinians in the West Bank since that time.
