Paramount+ has released the documentary *The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue*, which chronicles retired Israel Defense Forces Major-General Noam Tibon’s efforts to rescue his son’s family during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The film became available for streaming on the platform on September 29, ahead of the attack’s third anniversary, and can be accessed by subscribers through the service’s website or app.

Directed by Barry Avrich, the documentary traces the harrowing journey of Noam Tibon and his wife, Gali, as they make their way to Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Their son, Haaretz journalist Amir Tibon, along with his wife Miri and their two young daughters, were sheltering in their home’s safe room during the violent assault by Hamas militants on the kibbutz. The film incorporates firsthand accounts and footage from that day, reconstructing the tense and urgent rescue in detail.

The narrative extends beyond the Tibon family’s ordeal, showing how Noam and Gali aided others en route to the kibbutz. They assisted survivors fleeing the nearby Nova music festival and provided aid to wounded soldiers. Gali transported injured soldiers to a hospital, while Noam pressed on toward Nahal Oz, ultimately joining troops engaged in battling through the area. After several tense hours, he reached his family and led them to safety.

Avrich has emphasized that the film focuses on themes of family and humanity, rather than political symbolism. He was inspired to create the documentary after seeing Tibon’s interview on “60 Minutes” and considering how an individual might respond to such a desperate call for help. Tibon’s commitment to aiding strangers in danger, even while his own family’s safety was uncertain, forms a central theme in the film.

*The Road Between Us* received the People’s Choice Award for best documentary at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Its festival run was marked by controversy when the film was temporarily removed from the lineup due to clearance issues over Hamas bodycam footage, but it was reinstated following public protests.

Following its U.S. theatrical release in October 2025, the documentary’s availability on Paramount+ provides wider access for American viewers to witness this powerful account of survival and bravery during one of the most devastating attacks in recent Israeli history. While telling the story of a single family, the film also captures the broader atmosphere of fear and resilience experienced on that day.
